Food and drink consumed while you run is known as "nutrition", and it comes in various forms, shapes and sizes. Common types of running nutrition are powders you add to your water, energy bars, and energy gels.

These types of nutrition are packed with energy (calories) and assist you to stay hydrated (with electrolytes) so you can sustain harder training sessions, and take on longer training runs and races.

One of the biggest benefits of run-specific nutrition is that it is easy to take with you on training runs and to races. It is also usually engineered for your body to absorb and access the energy faster than trying to eat and digest real food.
